Russian President Vladimir Putin met with newly appointed Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Farit Mukhametshin

June 18, 2003, Novo-Ogaryovo

During the talk the President noted that Uzbekistan played a special role not only in Central Asia but also in the CIS and the world. He emphasized the great economical potential of that country.

The political cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan has been developing successfully but as the President said the countries had to enhance coordination of foreign policy moves. Interaction within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is of key importance in this respect.

At the same time economic cooperation is a priority for bilateral relations.

Mr Putin wished the new ambassador success in his future work.
