Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at the Memorial to the Soviet people who died during the Second World War

The memorial is located in the London neighbourhood of Southwark on the southern bank of the Thames. The monument by Russian sculptor Sergei Shcherbakov, showing the figure of a man with a bowed head holding aloft a bell, was unveiled on May 9, 1999.

Vladimir Putin welcomed the veterans of the Northern convoys who delivered weapons and food to the Soviet Union during the war.
