They had a detailed exchange of opinions concerning top priorities on the international agenda within the limits of their regular consultations shortly before a meeting of foreign and defence ministers at the Russian-French Council for Cooperation on Security Issues.
As they discussed practical aspects of bilateral relations, the Presidents noted with satisfaction the achievement of agreements in many fields of Russian-French partnership during a recent meeting of Prime Ministers in St Petersburg.
Mr Putin and Mr Chirac also discussed blueprints for further Russian-French contacts at different levels.
The conversation took place at the initiative of the French side.
