The message said, in part:

“This significant date is associated worldwide with the Great French Revolution, which brought humankind the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity.

“It is remarkable that this year the relations between our countries have reached a new level and new opportunities for bilateral and international cooperation have appeared.

“The state visit to France and our meetings in St Petersburg and Evian were held in an atmosphere of mutual trust and laid the groundwork for the further deepening of the Russian-French partnership.”
