At the meeting, Mikhail Fradkov said that the work to launch Russia’s strategic partnership with the European Union was noticeably stepped up after the Russia-EU summit held in St Petersburg in May.

He explained that this work would now focus on sectors. Preparations were under way for a meeting on transport and agriculture.

Mr Fradkov told Mr Putin that the concept of a common economic space was being drafted and a report on this issue should be prepared for the upcoming Russia-EU summit to be held in Rome in November.
