In accordance with UN Security Council resolution 1483 of March 22, 2003, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree abolishing economic sanctions taken by Russia against Iraq and freezing the financial and economic assets of the former Iraqi government on Russian territory

With a few exceptions, the decree ends in Russia the restrictions on trade with Iraq and the provision of financial or economic resources to Iraq imposed by UN Security Council resolution 661 of August 6, 1990, and by the corresponding subsequent resolutions, including Security Council resolution 778 of October 1992.
