President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Nikolai Bordyuzha, Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation

August 28, 2003, Novo-Ogaryovo

Mr Bordyuzha said the process of formalising the CSTO, which is comprised of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, was practically complete. Five parliaments had already ratified the founding documents, he said.

Mr Bordyuzha also informed President Putin of the organisation’s current affairs. He pointed to the need for the more active coordination of treaty members’ foreign policies.

Mr Bordyuzha cited a CSTO statement on the situation in the Korean Peninsula as a good example of such coordination.

He also recounted his participation in a meeting of UN regional international institutions.
