Mr Putin and Mr Mubarak exchanged congratulations on the memorable date marked the day before – the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Egypt.

It was stressed that a solid history had been formed over the years for the coordination of efforts in all fields – both in bilateral dealings and in international affairs. In that context, Mr Putin and Mr Mubarak discussed particular aspects of the further development of Russian-Egyptian cooperation.

In the course of the conversation, Mr Putin and Mr Mubarak also discussed current international issues. The Egyptian side praised Russia’s initiative to expand cooperation with the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.

There was also a useful exchange of views on the situation in Iraq and on the Middle East peace process.
