President Vladimir Putin congratulated the country’s schoolchildren, directors, and teachers in the school, higher education and specialised professional education systems with the beginning of the new school year, the “Day of Knowledge.”

The President visited the Krasnogorsk Optical-Electronics College in Moscow Oblast, where he learned about how the teaching process is organised and talked with the students. Mr Putin said that specialised professional and vocational education should be one of the state’s priorities in education policy. Making headway in the world economy is only possible if the country has qualified workers.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the government, the President said he is pleased that more attention is being paid to professional training.
