The 2003 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Alexei Abrikosov, Vitaly Ginzburg and British physicist Sir Anthony J. Leggett, who lives in the United States.

President Putin’s message to Alexei Abrikosov, who also lives and works in the United States, said:

“I congratulate you on receiving the Nobel Prize. Russia is sincerely proud of your achievement. This award once again confirms the extremely rich traditions and potential of the national scientific school. The results of your research are the cornerstone of an entire direction in fundamental physics, and have expanded humankind’s knowledge of nature and its laws.”

President Putin’s message to Vitaly Ginzburg said the Nobel Prize had been given to him in appreciation of his long work and his dedicated research.

“Your works have glorified Russian science and have enabled humankind to move closer towards comprehending the laws of fundamental physics,” the message said.
