Introducing visa-free travel between Russia and Europe is not immediately on the agenda, President Vladimir Putin said. But good cooperation in this area could and should bring closer a solution to this issue

November 5, 2003

Russia and Italy have agreed as from now to introduce simplified visa procedures for certain categories of citizens from both countries in order to help develop bilateral contacts. This was announced in the joint statement issued by President Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Italy Silvio Berlusconi following their talks.

The statement said that Russia and Italy are both committed to a shared vision of a future for Europe free from the artificial barriers that existed not so long ago and working towards the most forward-looking political and social standards for prosperity.
