Mr Putin and Mr Kasyanov discussed the overall social and economic situation in the country. They also discussed the procedure of considering priority bills in the State Duma.

Mr Kasyanov told the President about an upcoming Cabinet meeting on 2004 investment programmes for the power and gas industries and railway transport. The Cabinet planned to allocate over 500 billion roubles for these purposes.

Mr Kasyanov briefed the President on the outcome of his recent visit to Finland.
