Mr Putin expressed his heartfelt condolences about the new terrorist attacks in Istanbul, which had brought numerous casualties. President Putin also gave political support to the Turkish leadership in its confrontation with international terrorism.
Mr Erdogan thanked him for his solidarity and encouragement.
Both parties stressed the absolute necessity of stepping up joint counter-terrorist efforts and readiness for the closest possible cooperation in this sphere.
The first explosions in Istanbul were near two synagogues on November 15. Twenty people were killed and 257 were injured in the attacks.
Another wave of terrorism swept through the city on November 20 when the British General Consulate and the HSBC bank office were bombed. Twenty seven people were killed and over 450 were injured. British Consul General Roger Short was among the casualities.
Islamic extremists claimed responsibility for the attacks.
