The State Duma elections due to be held on December 7 are the most important political event of this year, President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with Russian television channels

The President thanked the current Duma deputies for their work over the last four years and said that more a lot more legislative work had been achieved over this period than over the previous years of the new Russia’s existence.

Mr Putin expressed the hope that there would be a high voter turnout for the parliamentary elections.
