Mr Medvedev sent to the State Duma a resolution on the draft Federal Law on Amendments to the Law on Mass Media, which passed its first reading in the State Duma on April 25, 2008.
“It is clear that this draft law’s provisions can only create obstacles for the mass media’s normal work and do not facilitate the stated objective of protecting citizens from the dissemination of information of a slanderous nature”, the President said in his resolution. Taking this into consideration, Mr Medvedev concluded that, “it is expedient to withdraw this draft law from further examination”.
