Minority languages should also be supported while promoting the Russian language, the President said. Yet if people do not have a command of a minority language, it should not impede their creative potential, Mr Putin stressed.
The issue of postponing military service in connection with the transition to 12-year schooling was also raised. The head of state assured that deferment would be preserved for university students. Mr Putin acknowledged that it would not be the best arrangement for the Armed Forces, but the country’s leaders also take into account other considerations, not just defence.
