The President also pointed to the FSB’s particular role in guaranteeing the country’s economic security. Russia is actively integrating into the global economy, so it is essential to take measures against industrial espionage and other forms of dishonest competition that lead to huge losses, Vladimir Putin said.

The head of state also emphasised that it was extremely important for the FSB to strengthen its ranks, as this was directly linked to securing the nation’s interests, as well as its democratic rights and freedoms.

In this connection, the President addressed the scandalous case of conscript border-guards becoming frostbitten at an airfield and announced that there would be an investigation into the matter with the guilty parties being punished.
