Georgia is an important partner for Russia, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting in the Kremlin with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili

February 11, 2004

Russia is always willing to accommodate Georgia on practically any question, Mr Putin said. This includes debt restructuring and energy supplies.

The President said Russia is one of Georgia’s biggest trading partners, accounting for 16 percent of its trade turnover. Trade turnover between the two countries increased by 37 percent compared to the same period last year. Mr Putin said this is a good growth rate.

The President said that President Mikhail Saakashvili’s statements made in Georgia, abroad and yesterday at a meeting with students send positive signals aimed at reviving Russian-Georgian relations.
