President Vladimir Putin sent a message to participants in the gala gathering to mark the 10th anniversary of the State Duma

February 21, 2004

The message was read by Dmitry Medvedev, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.

Below is the text of the message:

“I welcome all the participants in the gala gathering devoted to the 10th anniversary of the State Duma of the Russian Federation’s Federal Assembly.

All these years our country has been advancing steadily towards strengthening parliamentarianism, a major instrument of democracy. Largely due to the deputy corps’ active work, we have adopted laws laying the foundation for radical transformations in our society, for the development of a law-based state with a socially-oriented market economy.

The party and political makeup of the country’s supreme legislative authority is changing from election to election. However, the basic principles of the Duma deputies’ work – professionalism and responsibility – have remained intact. It is important to preserve the continuity of the best traditions of Russian parliamentarianism and constructive cooperation between all branches of state authority. I am sure that this will improve the law-making process and enhance its efficiency.

I wish every success and all the best to all the participants in the gala meeting.”
