February 26, 2004

The creation of transport infrastructure and energy facilities in the Far East is above all necessary for the development of the country and region.

Among the priority tasks for developing the Far East transport complex is a modernisation of the transport infrastructure of the region, taking into account the development of various types of transport, and also communications, energy and connections.

The President said it was necessary to introduce the most modern technical and ecological safety norms, and also to closely observe deadlines and quality in building new objects.

Earlier, at the opening ceremony of through traffic on the Chita-Khabarovsk highway, the President compared this event to the opening of the Trans-Siberian railway in significance.
