Mikhail Fradkov has been appointed Prime Minister in accordance with point a, article 83 of the Russian Federation Constitution. The decree takes effect from the day of its signature.

Mr Fradkov informed the President about his meeting with the State Duma deputies that took place before the vote on his nomination as new prime minister and noted that the idea of making the economy more competitive could unite the government, the Duma and the business community.

The State Duma voted in its overwhelming majority to approve Mikhail Fradkov’s appointment to the post of Prime Minister.
