President Vladimir Putin met with journalists

March 27, 2004, Bocharov Ruchei Residence, Sochi

During his conversation with journalists, Vladimir Putin touched upon cooperation with Georgia, including measures to settle the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict, as well as various aspects of Russia-EU cooperation. He spoke about the administrative reform, which was under way in Russia, and commented on the latest personnel reshuffles in the Government and the Presidential Executive Office.

In response to the journalists’ questions in Sochi, the President said that the Presidential Executive Office should be an efficient mechanism of management, implementing its own tasks without duplicating the functions of other supreme bodies of authority, in particular those of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The President also noted that the acting Prime Minister managed to continue the work of reorganising the Government, keep up the set pace and advance in working out social and economic reforms. President Putin positively assessed the style of the Government’s work and underlined that reorganisation did not hinder the drafting of major decisions.

According to the President, the role of the Security Council should also be changed. The Council’s task is to analyse the country’s domestic and foreign policies and formulate a development strategy for Russia and secure its position in the world.
