The full responsibility for security, law and order in the Chechen Republic should be gradually transferred to the law enforcement bodies of Chechnya, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Internal Affairs Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev

The responsibility in question currently rests with the anti-terrorist units and headquarters, the head of state stressed.

At the President’s request, Rashid Nurgaliyev briefed him on the criminal situation in the country with emphasis on the work to prevent and uncover race-related crimes, which the Internal Affairs Ministry holds under special review.

Mr Putin ordered the Internal Affairs Minister to personally review the investigation of race-related crimes. Such cases cannot be “shelved”, the President stressed.

In addition, issues connected with the preparation of a joint meeting of the Internal Affairs Ministries of Russia and Belarus were discussed.
