It is in the interests of both Russia and Japan to develop vigorous bilateral cooperation, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the leaders of the ”Council of Sages“, the Public Council for Developing Relations between Russia and Japan

April 14, 2004

Mr Putin noted that some complicated issues confront Russian-Japanese bilateral relations, but that the stumbling blocks in the way of developing closer relations can be removed if the two sides look for solutions that would be mutually acceptable to both countries.

The President expressed the hope that the ”Council of Sages“ would serve as a powerful intellectual force for launching new political, economic and cultural ideas and initiatives.
