The message said, in part:

“Our countries and peoples have traditional bonds of friendship, understanding and mutual respect. I hope that Russian-Spanish cooperation in all areas – trade and economic, technological and cultural – will continue to develop actively.

“Obviously, there are great opportunities for building up interaction in the world. I am convinced that answers to such common challenges as terrorism, the spread of weapons of mass destruction and regional conflicts can only be found through common efforts.

“I am confident that the links between Russia and Spain will remain close, friendly and constructive.”
