At a meeting with members of the Central Election Commission, President Vladimir Putin said he was in favour of consolidating political parties, as he believes only solid and competent political parties that enjoy extensive support from voters should have an influence on the country’s destiny

The Russian President reminded his listeners that there had been many disputes and fights over the law on political parties. But the experience of recent months and years had confirmed that the choice was correct.

46 parties remain on the political scene which have the right to put forward candidates. This is quite sufficient for voters to be able to make their choice, Vladimir Putin said.
