Although there was a slight drop in 2003, trade between the two countries increased by almost 80 percent over the period from 2000 to 2002, President Vladimir Putin noted during talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Duc Luong.

Mr Putin also noted that the two countries have made progress in fuel and energy sector cooperation and said there are good development prospects in the machine-building and agribusiness sectors, construction and telecommunications.
