In his greetings to the team, President Vladimir Putin said that Russian sportspeople have always been worthy of the Olympic ideals and have always been at the forefront of world sports. They have amazed the world on many occasions with their brilliant performances and exceptional records, and millions of Russians have felt sincere pride in their country at these moments.
Mr Putin wished the Olympic team perseverance and many memorable victories at the Games in Athens.
