The Federation Council should play a more active part in legislative work in the regions

August 10, 2004

Meeting with members of the Federation Council, President Vladimir Putin proposed that the country’s senators should become more actively involved in initiatives coming from the regions.

Not a single useful suggestion should be overlooked, Mr Putin said. Everything passed into law at federal level “must also be transposed into legislation at regional level”.

The President said that senators should coordinate their activities with the work of the plenipotentiary presidential envoys to the regions and should also establish close cooperation between the Federation Council and the Council of Legislators.
