President Vladimir Putin sent a message of congratulations to chairman of the People's Republic of China Hu Jingtao on the 55th anniversary of the foundation of the People's Republic of China

October 1, 2004

The message reads:

“I warmly congratulate you and the entire Chinese people on the 55th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Republic of China. It is significant that this celebration virtually coincides with the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between our countries.

It is pleasing to note that the diverse links between Russia and China are becoming stronger and stronger. On the firm basis of the Agreement on good neighbourly relations, friendship and cooperation of 16 July 2001, political dialogue between our countries is increasing, and bilateral trade and economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation is expanding. All the prerequisites exist for achieving a new level of strategic partnership, which is one of the most important factors in maintaining peace not just on a regional scale, but on a global scale.

In the face of contemporary challenges and threats to international security, the consistent efforts of the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China become particularly important in opposing terrorism in any of its forms and manifestations.

I am certain that Russian-Chinese relations will continue to be a positive example of good neighbourliness and cooperation between powers. I wish the friendly Chinese people peace, prosperity, and new achievements and success.”
