Mr Putin personally congratulated Mr Rakhmonov during a telephone conversation. Both Presidents expressed confidence that cooperation between their two countries in a wide variety of areas would continue to develop.

Mr Putin also sent a message of congratulations to the Tajik President.

The congratulatory message notes in particular:

“The great personal contribution that you have made towards strengthening the friendship and strategic partnership between Russia and Tajikistan and ensuring security and stability in the Central Asian region is well known in this country.

It is my firm belief that wide-ranging Russian-Tajik cooperation will continue to broaden and develop in the interests of our countries’ people.“
