The dialogue between Russia and Canada on the widest range of issues has been given a significant boost to its development

October 12, 2004

Meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin at the Kremlin, President Vladimir Putin noted the positive developments in trade and economic and investment cooperation. Trade between the two countries almost doubled in 2003 and rose by another 20 percent in 2004.

The overall volume of trade between the two countries is still very low, however and attempts must be made to find new areas of cooperation and new projects.

The President said that Gazprom and Petro-Canada plan to examine the possibility of supplying Russian liquefied gas not only to Canada itself but also to the entire North American continent.

Another promising area for cooperation is the Arctic and the northern regions.
