Following their talks in Dushanbe, the Presidents of Russia and Tajikistan signed a number of bilateral agreements

October 16, 2004

The two leaders signed documents in Dushanbe defining the new format for the Russian border guards’ presence in Tajikistan and the conditions for the presence of a Russian military base in the country.

After signing the documents, President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia places great importance on stability in the Central Asian region. Ensuring and strengthening a permanently functioning Russian military base will serve as a guarantee of stability in the region overall, Mr Putin said.

Intergovernmental agreements were also signed in the presence of the two heads of state.
