The two Presidents discussed issues currently on the international agenda and bilateral relations.

Mr Chirac said that the Russian State Duma’s decision to ratify the Kyoto Protocol is highly significant, will make a great contribution to developing international cooperation, and is therefore highly regarded in Europe and the world.

The French President also noted that the State Duma’s decision to extend the cooperation agreement between Russia and the European Union to the new EU members is an important step in developing relations between Russia and the EU.
