The President declared that the Prosecutor-General’s Office and the parliamentary commission would see the investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy through to its end. The main thing is to analyse the conditions that made such a crime possible, Mr Putin said.

Mr Dzasokhov said he considers it important that thorough measures be taken in the coming month or even week to clarify the circumstances of what happened in Beslan. Mr Dzasokhov noted that public and official life in North Ossetia bears the shadow of grief and sorrow. ”We know the price of stability and we are doing everything to prevent a new rise in tension“, Mr Dzasokhov said.

Mr Putin stressed that one of the main tasks for the North Ossetian officials now is to work together with their colleagues from the Russian government to take measures to help people get through their grief, create conditions for rehabilitation, settle social, economic and infrastructure issues, rebuild Beslan and provide the city with assistance. The President said he hoped this was already planned and would be carried out.

Mr Dzasokhov told the President that all the instructions given and measures worked out during Mr Putin’s visit to Beslan immediately following the tragedy are now ready to be carried out and said that he hoped the Russian government would issue the necessary instruction over the coming days. These measures involve, in particular, building schools, hospitals and new infrastructure in Beslan. Mr Dzasokhov expressed thanks for the help and sympathy the people of North Ossetia have received. He said that 1,500 Beslan residents have spent time in the best sanatoriums in Russia and Ukraine and that the children and teachers have been treated by the best doctors. ”Our multiethnic people will always remember this with gratitude“, Mr Dzasokhov said. ”It is an example of genuine support and sympathy“.
