President Vladimir Putin sent a message of welcome to participants of the 18th meeting of member countries of the Rio Group

November 5, 2004

The message of welcome reads:

“We highly value the consistently increasing dialogue between Russia and your authoritative integrated organisation. We believe that the Moscow declaration, passed at the end of a meeting between foreign ministers of Russia and the Rio Group of three created a good basis for advancing multilateral interaction between our countries, and the development of cooperation in both a bilateral and multilateral format.

We know well that the member countries of your organisation firmly adhere to the principles of international law and are in favour of looking for collective mechanisms for ensuring stability and security. We in Russia are also certain that only the joint efforts of all members of the international community can effectively oppose such global threats and challenges as international terrorism, economic backwardness, famine and poverty.

I would like to confirm that Russia is ready for close cooperation with the countries of the Rio Group in the interests of socio-economic progress in the 21st century, and the creation of a structure of international security that is acceptable for all the world’s nations.

I wish you success in your work for the good of your countries and peoples, and the strengthening of the integration mechanisms of the Rio Group.”
