President Vladimir Putin met with President of the United States George W. Bush

Issues of post-war organization of Iraq were discussed, along with the situation on the Korean peninsula. The two Presidents announced their support for a six-sided format for talks on the North Korean problem, with the U.S., Russia, North Korea, South Korea, Japan and China as the basis for a political solution to the problem of a non-nuclear status for the peninsula.

Mr Putin and Mr Bush agreed to hold the next Russian-American high-level meeting at the beginning of 2005.

On the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential aide Sergei Prikhod’ko and director of the North American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Igor Neverov took part, and on the American side, US State Secretary Colin Powell, deputy head of the White House Executive office Joe Hagen, and deputy Presidential aide on national security Steve Hadley.

After the conclusion of talks, Mr Bush invited Mr Putin to dinner at his residence in Santiago.
