The Russian President rang the President of Azerbaijan in connection with the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Heydar Aliev held in Baku on 12 December. Mr Putin expressed his profound respect for the memory of Heydar Aliev, and stressed his enormous contribution to strengthening friendship and good neighbourly relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.
Ilham Aliev thanked Mr Putin for showing an interest in the memory of the national leader of the people of Azerbaijan.
During their conversation, the Presidents expressed their satisfaction with the positive processes in Russian-Azerbaijani relations, and discussed individual aspects of their further development.
