Russia agrees with official representatives of the EU that there are problems with the rights of the Russian-speaking population in the Baltic States

December 14, 2004

Russia does not intend to radicalise the situation of the rights of the Russian-speaking population in the Baltic States, but it will also not pretend that these issues do not exist, President Vladimir Putin said at a joint press conference with Finnish President Tarja Halonen.

Russia will strive to solve existing problems on the basis of humanitarian law, applying such principles to the entire European continent.

Regulation of the rights of the Russian-speaking population is only possible through close cooperation between Russia and united Europe, and also on a bilateral basis with Baltic countries, respecting the lawful interests of all parties.
