December 16, 2004

The power station’s new third power generating unit began operations today. The President visited the engine room where the unit’s main turbine is located and also looked around the control room where the unit’s main operating parameters are set and monitored. Power station personnel showed Mr Putin how the unit’s television monitoring system works.

The duty operator told the President that the unit’s current capacity is 180 megawatts and that it has design capacity of 1,000 megawatts.

Mr Putin congratulated the station’s managers and all the personnel on the launch of the new unit.

The control station was built entirely by Russian manufacturers and using only Russian technology.
