Industrial and economic progress should go hand in hand with just as great an effort to ensure the public's safety

December 16, 2004

At a meeting of the State Council Presidium that took place in Tver Region, President Vladimir Putin noted achievements that have been made in carrying out major projects to develop the country, the state and the economy.

Growth in production and infrastructure development call for consistent and balanced efforts to build up the country’s energy sector and strengthen its positions, including in nuclear energy.

Every effort must be made in developing the nuclear energy sector to exclude the possibility of any serious negative events at nuclear facilities. Nuclear facilities must also be reliably protected from any potential criminal action. The President called ensuring the safety of nuclear facilities a major priority for the state.
