The president wished Muscovites and the capital's authorities success, adding that the state of the entire country to a large extent depended on Moscow

December 29, 2004

Moscow is often called the heart of the country, but this is not a complete definition: in all times, even when Moscow was not the capital of Russia, it was called the backbone of Russian statehood, and this has remained the case, the president said at a ceremonial gala organised by the Moscow mayor’s office to celebrate the New Year.

The president said that the city’s strict rhythm of life offered a great deal of sense not only for the capital, but also for all of Russia. A talented, energetic person can achieve stunning personal successes and make a huge contribution to the entire country’s development.

The head of state thanked the capital’s authorities for everything that had been done for Muscovites in the outgoing year.
