The Russian President expressed his sincere and profound condolences to the leadership and people of India over the numerous victims of the unprecedented natural catastrophe in the region which took place on 26 December 2004.

Mr Putin expressed his solidarity with India in the work on liquidating the consequences of the natural disaster, and said that the Russian Federation was prepared to provide all possible assistance.

Mr Singh expressed his gratitude for the solidarity shown by Russia, stressing that it fully matched the historically friendly nature of Russian-Indian relations.
