Resolving the issue of Russia's accession to the World Trade Organisation would help correct the imbalance in trade and economic relations with Turkey

January 11, 2005

Speaking at a meeting with Turkish business community representatives, President Vladimir Putin noted with satisfaction that Turkey has a positive attitude towards the prospect of Russia joining the World Trade Organisation.

The completion of bilateral talks taking place as part of the process for Russia’s accession to the WTO on acceptable conditions would create new opportunities for expanding cooperation in many different areas, improving the investment climate, expanding the domestic market, encouraging innovation and export opportunities and also correcting the imbalance in the trade turnover between Russia and Turkey.

Mr Putin stressed that in developing a strategy for economic relations with Turkey Russia should not allow dumping to take place, but should also base itself on the real economic situation.
