Vladimir Putin examined the museum exhibition in block 14 of the Auschwitz camp (Auschwitz-Birkenau)

January 27, 2005

Soviet prisoners of war were held here for several months during the war.

Before entering the exhibition, the President laid a bouquet of roses by a photograph of a young boy imprisoned in Auschwitz, who became the symbol of the exhibition “The tragic fate of peoples of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945”.

The exhibition consists of a labyrinth made up of old prison bars and pieces of barbed wire, on which photographs and documents are hung.

A large section of the exhibition is devoted to Soviet children imprisoned in Auschwitz. There are photographs about the lives of concentration camp prisoners, and stories of prisoners who survived, including members of the camp resistance.
