Russia is prepared to move to a new level of cooperation with NATO, and deepen cooperation in military and technical activity

January 28, 2005

The choice made in favour of dialogue and cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has proved correct and effective, said Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Security Council in the Kremlin.

This choice has served to strengthen Russia’s international position, and opened additional possibilities for solving national tasks.

The President said that Russia and NATO were planning to work on issues of effective compatibility of troops, hold joint training in liquidating the consequences of manmade catastrophes and natural disasters.

Today, it is necessary to build relations with NATO taking into account the transformation of this organisation that is going on, given the internal discussion that is still going on between its participants on models and prospects of this transformation.
