President Vladimir Putin met with Director of Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation (Rosoboronexport) Sergei Chemezov

February 8, 2005, The Kremlin, Moscow

The meeting discussed how to increase export sales of Russian arms.

Mr Chemezov informed Mr Putin of results for 2004, saying that Rosoboronexport had achieved export sales of $5.12 billion. Rosoboronexport delivered arms and military equipment to the United Nations and to 59 different countries in 2004, as opposed to 53 countries in 2003. India and China remain the biggest buyers, accounting for more than 80 percent of all Russian arms exports.

The President noted the issue of ensuring maintenance and servicing and increasing supplies of spare parts for Russian arms used in different countries.

Mr Putin instructed Rosoboronexport to work more closely with the Foreign Ministry when concluding new contracts for delivering military equipment abroad.
