The meeting examined immigration policy issues.

Mr Putin said it was important to encourage immigration. The issue is not simply to compensate for the decline in Russia’s population but also to encourage legal and regulated immigration.

The President spoke of the need to create conditions for attracting job-seekers to Russia’s labour market, but said that this should be in Russia’s interests.

Mr Putin also noted how vitally important it is to protect the national labour market.
