Talks with the Ukrainian leadership have shown that there are no problems in bilateral relations, just some issues that should be resolved as part of working business

March 19, 2005

When two countries have as many mutual interests as do Russia and Ukraine, it is entirely possible that there can be different approaches to resolving this or that question, but the Russian and Ukrainian leadership do not have the impression that there are any problems with bilateral relations, President Vladimir Putin said at the press conference following talks in Kiev.

Mr Putin qualified his talks with President Yushchenko as friendly and highly constructive. The meeting was very thoroughly prepared and the discussion was candid.

The President said he is certain that successfully implementing the Common Economic Space project will help develop economic relations between the two countries and noted that the Ukrainian leadership is showing an interest in moving forward with this project.

The two Presidents agreed to establish a standing top-level commission, “Putin-Yushchenko.“
