President Vladimir Putin and Armenian President Robert Kocharyan exchanged messages on the occasion of the opening of the Year of Russia in Armenia

March 21, 2005

In the message, Vladimir Putin noted that Russia always attaches great importance to the constant strengthening of friendly ties with Armenia – a reliable ally and strategic partner.

Particular importance in the programme of the Year of Russia in Armenia is occupied by events celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Victory. This is a tribute of respect to the achievement and courage of all those who fought together against the Nazis, the message reads.

In his reply, Robert Kocharyan noted that the Year of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Armenia will undoubtedly help the full realisation of the political, economic and cultural potential of cooperation between the brotherly nations of both countries.

The Armenian President also stressed that the victory over Nazism, the 60th anniversary of which will also be celebrated in 2005, is a heroic page in the common history of two countries which bound the fates of the two peoples and brought them closer together.
